The oppressed, who have been conditioned by the oppressor to accept their reality as inevitable, must engage in critical reflection to question the oppressive structures that govern their lives. This process of conscientization allows the oppressed to recognize the contradictions within their reality and to uncover the mechanisms through which their oppression is maintained. By questioning their reality, the oppressed are able to see beyond the false consciousness imposed upon them by the oppressor, and to reclaim their agency and autonomy.
