Oppressed must question their reality from "summary" of Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

The oppressed, who have been conditioned by the oppressor to accept their reality as inevitable, must engage in critical reflection to question the oppressive structures that govern their lives. This process of conscientization allows the oppressed to recognize the contradictions within their reality and to uncover the mechanisms through which their oppression is maintained. By questioning their reality, the oppressed are able to see beyond the false consciousness imposed upon them by the oppressor, and to reclaim their agency and autonomy. Through this process of questioning, the oppressed are able to develop a critical understanding of their social, political, and economic conditions. They come to see that their oppression is not a natural or inevitable state of affairs, but rather the result of historical and structural injustices perpetuated by those in power. By interrogating their reality, the oppressed are able to challenge the dominant narratives that seek to justify their subjugation and to imagine alternative ways of being and relating to the world. This process of questioning is not simply an intellectual exercise, but a deeply transformative practice that has the power to liberate the oppressed from the constraints of their oppression. By critically examining their reality, the oppressed are able to develop a sense of agency and empowerment, and to mobilize themselves in collective struggle against their oppressors. Through this process of conscientization, the oppressed are able to break free from the cycle of oppression and to envision a more just and equitable society for themselves and future generations.
