Write every day to improve your skills from "summary" of On Writing by Stephen King

The idea is simple: if you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. There's no way around these two things that I'm aware of, no shortcut. If you don't have the time to read, you don't have the time or the tools to write. Simple as that. Reading is the creative center of a writer's life. You cannot hope to sweep someone else away by the force of your writing until it has been done to you. Writing is magic, as much the water of life as any other creative art. The water is free. So drink. Drink and be filled up. When you find that you can't write, you may feel depressed or anxious. Take solace in the fact that some of the greatest writers in history have been unable to write. Remember that your job is to write well, and in order to do that, you must be willing to put in the time and the effort. Consistency is key. If you want to become a better writer, you must write every day. It doesn't matter if you only write a few hundred words or a few thousand. What matters is that you make the effort to sit down and write. It's like exercising a muscle: the more you use it, the stronger it will become. Writing every day will help you develop a routine, which is crucial for any writer. Don't worry about writing something perfect every time. First drafts are supposed to be messy and imperfect. The important thing is to get your ideas down on paper. You can always revise and edit later. The more you write, the more you will improve. Your writing will become more polished, your ideas more refined. So don't be afraid to make mistakes. Embrace them, learn from them, and keep writing. It's the only way to get better.
