The Party's slogan, "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength," is a prime example of how they distort the truth. By convincing the citizens that their perpetual state of war is actually a form of peace, they are able to maintain control over the population. The Ministry of Truth is responsible for fabricating historical records to align with the Party's current narrative.
