Chemical equations represent reactions using symbols from "summary" of NCERT Chemistry Class 11 - [CBSE Board] by Dr. S. C. Rastogi, ,Er. Meera Goyal
Chemical equations are a way of representing chemical reactions using symbols. These symbols provide a concise and standardized way of conveying information about the reactants, products, and conditions of the reaction. By using chemical equations, scientists and students can easily communicate and understand complex chemical processes. In a chemical equation, the reactants are written on the left side of the equation, while the products are written on the right side. The reactants are the substances that are consumed in the reaction, while the products are the substances that are formed as a result of the reaction. The "+" sign is used to separate different reactants or products, while an arrow pointing to the right (→) indicates the direction of the reaction. Coefficients are used in chemical equations to indicate the relative amounts of each substance involved in the reaction. These coefficients are placed in front of the chemical formulas and help to balance the equation by ensuring that the number of atoms of each element is the same on both sides of the equation. Balancing chemical equations is important because it ensures that the law of conservation of mass is obeyed. Subscripts are also used in chemical equations to indicate the number of atoms of each element in a molecule. For example, in the chemical formula H2O, the subscript 2 indicates that there are two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. This information is crucial for understanding the composition of the reactants and products in a chemical reaction.- Chemical equations are a powerful tool for representing and understanding chemical reactions. By using symbols to represent the reactants, products, and conditions of a reaction, chemists can communicate information in a clear and concise manner. Balancing equations and using coefficients and subscripts ensure that the equation accurately represents the stoichiometry of the reaction, allowing for accurate calculations and predictions.
