Diminishers hoard power and control from "summary" of Multipliers by Liz Wiseman,Greg McKeown
Diminishers are leaders who hold onto power and control like a precious commodity. They believe that if they let go of control, things will fall apart. They micromanage their team, second-guess decisions, and insist on being involved in every detail. This behavior stems from a fear of losing control and a lack of trust in their team's abilities. Diminishers hoard power because they believe that they are the only ones who can make things happen. These leaders have a scarcity mindset when it comes to power and control. They believe that there is a limited amount of power to go around, and they must hold onto as much as possible. They see power as a zero-sum game - if someone else gains power, they must lose it. This fear drives them to hoard power and control, stifling the growth and potential of their team members. Diminishers' need for control often leads to a lack of empowerment within their team. When team members are not given the opportunity to make decisions and take ownership of their work, they become disengaged and disempowered. This lack of empowerment can lead to decreased motivation and productivity, as team members feel like their contributions are not valued. Furthermore, by hoarding power and control, diminishers limit the growth and development of their team. When leaders insist on making all the decisions and being involved in every detail, team members are not given the opportunity to learn and grow. This hinders the overall success of the team, as team members are not able to reach their full potential under the stifling control of a diminisher. In contrast, Multipliers are leaders who believe in the power of empowering others. They trust their team members to make decisions and take ownership of their work. By empowering their team, Multipliers are able to unlock the full potential of their team members and achieve greater success. Multipliers understand that true leadership is not about hoarding power and control, but about empowering others to reach their full potential.Similar Posts
