Diminishers create dependency and reliance from "summary" of Multipliers by Liz Wiseman,Greg McKeown
Diminishers inadvertently cultivate dependency and reliance within their teams. This happens because Diminishers tend to take over, leaving their team members to sit back and watch rather than actively engage. As a result, team members become accustomed to relying on the Diminisher to have all the answers and make all the decisions. Over time, this creates a cycle where team members become increasingly dependent on the Diminisher's expertise and guidance. Diminishers often unknowingly create a culture of dependency by constantly swooping in to rescue their team members. While this may seem helpful in the short term, it ultimately hinders the growth and development of team members. Instead of empowering their team to figure things out on their own, Diminishers inadvertently send the message that they are the only ones capable of solving problems and making decisions. This not only stifles creativity and innovation within the team but also fosters a sense of helplessness among team members. By constantly micromanaging and second-guessing their team members, Diminishers breed a culture of reliance where team members become hesitant to take initiative or make decisions without the Diminisher's approval. This creates a bottleneck in the decision-making process and prevents the team from reaching its full potential. Team members begin to doubt their own abilities and defer to the Diminisher for even the most basic tasks, further reinforcing their dependency on the Diminisher's expertise.- Diminishers inadvertently create a dynamic where team members become increasingly reliant on them for direction, guidance, and validation. This not only hinders the growth and development of team members but also limits the team's overall effectiveness and potential. By recognizing the impact of their actions and actively working to empower their team members, Diminishers can break the cycle of dependency and foster a culture of autonomy and self-reliance within their teams.
