Reconciliation with estranged mother brings healing from "summary" of Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou

The day I decided to reach out to my mother was a turning point in my life. For so long, we had been estranged, our relationship strained by years of absence and misunderstandings. I had carried the weight of that distance with me, a burden on my heart that I didn't realize was there until I made the decision to confront it. As I made my way to her house, I felt a mix of emotions - fear, uncertainty, but also a glimmer of hope. I didn't know what to expect, how she would react to my presence after all this time. But I knew that I needed to face my past, to confront the pain that had kept us apart for so long. When I finally stood before her, I saw the years etched on her face, the lines of wisdom and experience that I had missed out on. But I also saw the love in her eyes, a love that had never wavered despite our distance. In that moment, I knew that reconciliation was possible, that healing could begin. Our reunion was not easy - there were tears, there were arguments, there were moments of silence filled with unspoken words. But through it all, I felt a sense of release, a letting go of the pain that had held me captive for so long. And as we talked, as we shared our stories and our truths, I felt a sense of healing wash over me. In the days and weeks that followed, I found myself slowly letting go of the anger and resentment that had clouded my heart. I began to see my mother not just as a figure from my past, but as a woman with her own struggles and triumphs. And in that understanding, I found a new sense of peace, a new beginning for our relationship.
