Mindfulness helps us to break free from negative patterns from "summary" of Mindfulness in Plain English by Henepola Gunaratana

When we begin to practice mindfulness, we start to become aware of the negative patterns that have been running our lives. These patterns have been so deeply ingrained in our minds that we often don't even realize they are there. But through mindfulness, we can shine a light on these patterns and see them for what they truly are. By bringing our attention to the present moment, we can observe these negative patterns as they arise. We can see how they affect our thoughts, emotions, and actions. And most importantly, we can see the suffering that they bring into our lives. As we continue to practice mindfulness, we start to develop a sense of detachment from these negative patterns. We realize that we are not defined by them, that they are not who we truly are. And with this realization comes a sense of freedom. We no longer feel trapped by these patterns, no longer controlled by them. Instead, we begin to see that we have a choice. We can choose to follow these negative patterns, or we can choose to let them go. We can choose to respond differently, to break free from the cycle of suffering that they create. Through mindfulness, we learn to cultivate a sense of inner peace and resilience. We become better equipped to deal with the challenges and difficulties that life throws at us. And most importantly, we learn to let go of the negative patterns that have been holding us back for so long. In this way, mindfulness becomes a powerful tool for transformation. It allows us to break free from the limiting beliefs and behaviors that have been keeping us stuck. It gives us the courage and clarity to step into a new way of being, one that is more aligned with our true selves. And in doing so, we open ourselves up to a life of greater joy, fulfillment, and freedom.
