Justice, that elusive and abstract concept that we cling to in our society like a lifeline. Yet, in reality, it is nothing more than a delicate web, easily torn apart by the whims of those in power. One moment, we believe in its power to right wrongs and punish the guilty. The next, we see it twisted and manipulated to serve the agendas of those with influence and wealth. We like to think that justice is blind, that it sees only the truth and acts accordingly. But the truth is, justice is often swayed by the biases and prejudices of those who wield it. It can be bought and sold, traded like a commodity in the marketplace of power and politics. And once tainted, it is almost impossible to restore its integrity.
