Pushing for social change from "summary" of Men We Reaped by Jesmyn Ward
As I look back on those years, I realize that we were always pushing for something, pushing for change. We were constantly fighting against the current, against the forces that sought to keep us down. We were pushing for social change, even if we didn't realize it at the time. There was a fire burning within us, a fire that drove us to keep going, to keep fighting. We knew that the odds were stacked against us, but we refused to give up. We refused to accept the status quo, to accept our place at the bottom of the social hierarchy. We wanted more, we wanted better, and we were willing to push for it. It wasn't easy, pushing for social change never is. There were obstacles at every turn, roadblocks that seemed insurmountable. But we didn't let that stop us. We kept pushing, kept fighting, kept believing that things could be different. And slowly, ever so slowly, we began to see the fruits of our labor. We saw small changes, small victories that gave us hope. We saw people standing up and taking notice, people who were willing to listen to what we had to say. We saw the power of our collective voices, the power of pushing for social change together. And so we kept pushing, kept fighting, kept believing. Because we knew that change wouldn't come easy, that it would require hard work and sacrifice. But we also knew that it was worth it, that our efforts would not be in vain. And so we pushed on, determined to make a difference, determined to create a better world for ourselves and for those who would come after us.
