After many years of traveling in the East, Marco Polo finally made his way back to Venice, his hometown. However, his return did not go as planned. Upon arriving in Venice, Polo found himself caught in the midst of a war that was raging through the city. The conflict was between the Republic of Venice and the Republic of Genoa, two powerful maritime states competing for dominance in the region.
