Facial expressions are a powerful form of nonverbal communication that can often reveal our true emotions, even when we are trying to hide them. As much as we may try to control our facial expressions, they can often give us away without us even realizing it. This is because our facial muscles are directly connected to our emotions, making it difficult to completely mask how we truly feel. For example, when someone is feeling happy, their facial muscles will naturally contort into a smile, even if they are trying to appear neutral. Similarly, when someone is feeling angry or upset, their eyebrows may furrow, their lips may purse, or their nostrils may flare, all of which can be difficult to conceal.
