Meaning is not something that can be forced upon us by external factors. It is not a one-size-fits-all concept that can be handed to us from outside sources. Instead, meaning is something that emerges from within each individual. It is a deeply personal and subjective experience that cannot be dictated by others. This idea of meaning coming from within is central to the philosophy of logotherapy, a form of psychotherapy developed by Viktor E. Frankl. Logotherapy posits that the primary drive in human beings is not pleasure (as Freud suggested) or power (as Adler believed), but rather the pursuit of what Frankl calls "meaning."
