Life is filled with suffering and pain from "summary" of Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor E Frankl

Life is not easy, nor is it fair. From the moment we are born, we are faced with challenges and obstacles that can seem insurmountable. Whether it is physical pain, emotional suffering, or existential angst, we are constantly confronted with the harsh realities of existence. In my time as a prisoner in a concentration camp, I witnessed firsthand the depths of human suffering. I saw men and women stripped of their dignity, their humanity, their very sense of self. I saw the look of despair in their eyes, the hollow emptiness that comes from years of relentless torment. But even in the midst of such unimaginable suffering, I also saw something else. I saw the resilience of the human spirit, the capacity for hope and meaning even in the face of overwhelming despair. I saw men and women who, despite all odds, found a reason to keep going, to keep fighting, to keep living. This is the paradox of human existence – that life is filled with suffering and pain, but that it is also filled with beauty and meaning. It is up to each of us to choose how we respond to the challenges that life throws our way. We can either succumb to despair and nihilism, or we can find a reason to keep going, a purpose that gives meaning to our suffering.
  1. It is not the suffering itself that defines us, but how we choose to respond to it. It is our ability to find meaning in the midst of suffering that ultimately determines the course of our lives. As I often say, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” And it is in this act of transformation that we find our true humanity, our true purpose, our true reason for being.
