Learn to say no to things that don't align with your priorities from "summary" of Make time by Jake Knapp,John Zeratsky (Product designer)
When it comes to making time for what matters most, it's critical to be intentional about where we invest our energy. One key strategy is learning to be selective about what we say yes to, and more importantly, what we say no to. By setting clear priorities and boundaries, we can ensure that our time and attention are focused on activities that align with our values and goals. It's easy to fall into the trap of saying yes to everything that comes our way, whether it's work projects, social invitations, or personal commitments. However, when we spread ourselves too thin, we end up feeling overwhelmed and unable to give our best to the things that truly matter to us. This is where the power of saying no comes in. Saying no doesn't mean being rude or dismissive. It simply means being honest with ourselves and others about what we can realistically take on. By being selective about the opportunities we pursue, we can free up more time and mental bandwidth for the activities that bring us joy and fulfillment. In order to effectively say no, it's essential to have a clear understanding of our priorities. What are the things that truly matter to us? What are our long-term goals and values? By answering these questions, we can create a framework for decision-making that helps us filter out distractions and focus on what's most important. Additionally, it's important to remember that saying no is a skill that can be developed over time. It may feel uncomfortable at first, especially if we're used to saying yes to everything. However, with practice and self-awareness, we can become more confident in setting boundaries and prioritizing our time.- Learning to say no is about taking control of our lives and intentionally choosing how we spend our time. By being selective about the opportunities we pursue, we can create space for the activities that align with our priorities and bring us closer to our goals.
