The death of Dronacharya from "summary" of Mahabharat Ki Kahaniyan by Harish Sharma
Dronacharya was a great warrior and teacher in the epic Mahabharata. He was a master of warfare and had trained many princes in the art of combat. However, his loyalty lay with the Kauravas, the cousins of the Pandavas. During the great battle of Kurukshetra, Dronacharya fought on the side of the Kauravas against the Pandavas. He was a formidable opponent and his skills on the battlefield were unmatched. The Pandavas knew that as long as Dronacharya was fighting for the Kauravas, they would have a difficult time winning the war. In order to defeat Dronacharya, the Pandavas hatched a plan. They spread the rumor that Dronacharya's son Ashwatthama had been killed in battle. Dronacharya was devastated by this news and lost his will to fight. Taking advantage of Dronacharya's grief, the Pandavas devised a plan to kill him. Bhima, one of the Pandava brothers, challenged an elephant named Ashwatthama to a duel. Dronacharya, thinking that his son was dead, rushed to the battlefield to avenge his death. When Dronacharya arrived, he saw the elephant lying dead on the ground. Bhima, seeing Dronacharya approaching, shouted to his brothers that Ashwatthama was dead. However, he muttered the word "elephant" under his breath so that only his brothers could hear. Yudhishthira, the eldest of the Pandavas, knew that it was important to speak the truth. But he also knew that if Dronacharya believed his son was dead, he would lose the will to fight. So, he agreed to Bhima's plan and shouted along with his brothers that Ashwatthama was dead. Dronacharya, hearing this, was heartbroken. He dropped his weapons and sat down on the battlefield in despair. Seeing Dronacharya in this state, Dhrishtadyumna, the commander of the Pandava army, seized the opportunity and beheaded Dronacharya. Thus, the great warrior and teacher met his end on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. His death was a turning point in the war and marked a significant victory for the Pandavas.
