Death of Drona from "summary" of Mahabharat Ki Kahaniyan by Harish Sharma

The great warrior Drona, who was not only a skilled warrior but also a revered teacher, played a significant role in the epic Mahabharata. He was the royal preceptor of both the Kauravas and the Pandavas, and his knowledge of warfare was unparalleled. However, during the Kurukshetra war, Drona found himself on the side of the Kauravas, as he had a longstanding relationship with King Dhritarashtra. As the battle raged on, Drona proved to be a formidable adversary, leading the Kaurava army with his strategic prowess and martial skills. The Pandavas, knowing that defeating Drona was crucial to their victory, came up with a plan to ensure his downfall. Bhima, the strongest of the Pandavas, engaged Drona in combat, knowing that he alone would not be able to defeat the mighty warrior. However, Bhima's charioteer, who bore a striking resemblance to Yudhishthira, began spreading false news that Ashwatthama, Drona's son, had been killed in battle. Upon hearing this news, Drona was devastated, as his love for his son knew no bounds. In his moment of grief, Drona's fighting spirit wavered, allowing the Pandavas to gain the upper hand. Taking advantage of the situation, Yudhishthira proclaimed that Ashwatthama was dead, but he was referring to an elephant also named Ashwatthama. Drona, unable to bear the thought of his son's death, laid down his arms and sat in meditation, making himself vulnerable to attack. Seizing this opportunity, Dhrishtadyumna, the commander of the Pandava army, beheaded Drona, thus bringing about his tragic end. The death of Drona was a turning point in the Kurukshetra war, as it not only weakened the Kaurava army but also had a profound emotional impact on all those involved. Drona's demise served as a reminder of the futility of war and the inevitable consequences of choosing sides in a conflict of such magnitude.
