Path to presidency from "summary" of Long Walk to Freedom with Connections by Nelson Mandela
The journey to the presidency was not a straight path for me. It was filled with obstacles, challenges, and sacrifices. I knew from the beginning that it would not be easy, but I was determined to persevere. I had a vision for a better future for my people, and I was willing to do whatever it took to achieve it. I started my political career as a young lawyer, fighting for the rights of black South Africans in a system that was designed to oppress us. I quickly realized that in order to bring about real change, I would need to get involved in politics at a higher level. I joined the African National Congress and became increasingly involved in the struggle for freedom and equality. As I became more prominent in the ANC, I also became a target of the apartheid government. I was arrested, imprisoned, and ultimately sentenced to life in prison for my beliefs and actions.
