Our mortality makes life precious and valuable from "summary" of Life: Why Live if You Have to Die? by David Perry

The fact that we are mortal creatures is what gives life its preciousness. Without an expiration date, what value would there be in anything we do? It is the shadow of death that makes every moment meaningful, every experience significant. If we were immortal, there would be no urgency to live, no reason to make the most of our time on earth. Our mortality forces us to confront the reality of our existence and pushes us to seek purpose and fulfillment. Knowing that our time is limited compels us to cherish every moment, to savor every joy, to learn from every challenge. It is the awareness of our mortality that drives us to create, to love, to connect with others. Death is an inevitable part of life, but it is also what gives life its beauty and poignancy. It is the knowledge that our time here is limited that makes us appreciate the beauty of a sunset, the laughter of a child, the warmth of a hug. Without the knowledge of our mortality, we would take these things for granted, never truly understanding their value. Our mortality gives us the gift of perspective, allowing us to see what truly matters in life. It is the awareness of our finitude that helps us prioritize our goals, focus on what is important, and let go of what is not. It is through the lens of death that we can truly appreciate the richness and complexity of life. In the face of death, we are forced to confront our own humanity, our own vulnerability. It is this vulnerability that connects us to others, that allows us to empathize, to love, to support one another. Our mortality unites us in our shared experience of life, reminding us that we are all in this together. In the end, it is our mortality that gives life its value and meaning. It is the knowledge that our time is limited that makes every moment precious, every experience valuable. Our mortality is not something to fear, but something to embrace, for it is what makes life worth living.
