Denying our mortality can prevent us from fully experiencing life from "summary" of Life: Why Live if You Have to Die? by David Perry
Avoiding the reality of death may lead us to miss out on the fullness of life. By refusing to acknowledge our mortality, we may inadvertently limit our ability to appreciate the present moment. We become so consumed with the trivialities of everyday life that we fail to recognize the preciousness of life itself. When we deny the inevitability of death, we may take life for granted. We become complacent, thinking that we have all the time in the world to pursue our dreams and passions. This mindset can prevent us from living authentically and fully embracing the experiences that come our way. Furthermore, denying our mortality can hinder our ability to cultivate gratitude and meaning in our lives. When we are constantly avoiding thoughts of death, we may struggle to find purpose and fulfillment in our daily activities. We may lose sight of what truly matters to us and become disconnected from our values and beliefs. In addition, denying our mortality can contribute to feelings of fear and anxiety. When we refuse to confront the reality of death, we may experience heightened levels of stress and uncertainty. This can prevent us from taking risks, pursuing our goals, and living with a sense of freedom and authenticity.- By denying our mortality, we are denying ourselves the opportunity to fully experience and appreciate life. Only by acknowledging the transient nature of our existence can we truly embrace the beauty and significance of every moment. It is only when we confront our mortality that we can begin to live with intention, purpose, and gratitude.
