Leaders who prioritize the well-being of their team members build a foundation of trust and loyalty. This trust allows team members to take risks, make mistakes, and learn and grow without fear of retribution. In turn, team members are more engaged, productive, and innovative. On the other hand, leaders who prioritize their own success at the expense of their team members create a culture of fear and competition. In this environment, team members are more concerned with protecting themselves and their interests than working together towards a common goal. This lack of trust and cooperation leads to decreased morale, productivity, and innovation.
