Junie B. Jones discovers that people can be different from one another. For example, she learns that her new friend, Grace, has a different skin color than her. At first, Junie B. doesn't understand why Grace looks different, but she soon realizes that it doesn't matter. Grace is still a nice person, just like Junie B. As Junie B. spends more time with Grace, she starts to appreciate their differences. She learns that Grace is good at drawing, while Junie B. is good at playing kickball. They may have different talents, but they can still be friends and have fun together. Junie B. also notices that Grace speaks differently than her, using words that Junie B. doesn't always understand. Instead of making fun of Grace, Junie B. decides to ask her to explain what she means. Through her friendship with Grace, Junie B. learns that everyone is unique in their own way. She realizes that differences can be a good thing, adding variety and interest to the world. Junie B. comes to see that it's okay to be different from others, and that she should accept people for who they are. By the end of the story, Junie B. no longer sees Grace's differences as strange or weird. She values their friendship and the ways in which they complement each other.
