The Supreme Court is the highest court of appeal in India. It is the final interpreter of the Constitution and the laws of the land. The Supreme Court consists of a Chief Justice and a maximum of 34 judges. The President of India appoints the judges of the Supreme Court. The judges hold office until they reach the age of 65. The Supreme Court has original, appellate, and advisory jurisdiction. It has original jurisdiction in disputes between the Union and the states, or between the states themselves.
