The Attorney General of India is the highest legal officer of the Government of India. He is the chief legal advisor to the Government of India and holds office during the pleasure of the President. The Attorney General is appointed by the President and must be a person qualified to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court. The Attorney General has the right to speak and take part in the proceedings of either House of Parliament or their joint sitting and any committee of Parliament of which he is named a member, but is not entitled to vote.
