Comparison steals joy from "summary" of In My Thoughts by Virginia Martin

The act of comparing oneself to others is a dangerous game that many of us play without even realizing it. We look at someone else's life, their accomplishments, their possessions, and we can't help but feel a twinge of jealousy or inadequacy. We wonder why we don't have what they have, why we aren't where they are in life. This comparison steals our joy, robbing us of the ability to appreciate what we do have. When we constantly measure ourselves against others, we set ourselves up for disappointment. We are all on our own unique paths, facing our own challenges and triumphs. It is unfair to hold ourselves to someone else's standards, to expect our lives to look exactly like someone else's. We must learn to find contentment in our own journey, to celebrate our own successes without feeling the need to measure them against anyone else's. Comparison is a never-ending cycle that only leads to unhappiness. There will always be someone who has more than us, who is further along than us. But that doesn't mean that we are any less valuable or deserving of happiness. We must learn to shift our focus away from what others have and towards what we have been blessed with. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, we should focus on cultivating gratitude for what we have. We should celebrate our own unique qualities and accomplishments, recognizing that we are enough just as we are. When we can learn to appreciate ourselves without needing validation from others, we can finally break free from the cycle of comparison and find true joy in our own lives.
