Trust your instincts when it comes to eating from "summary" of In Defence of Food by Michael Pollan

When it comes to eating, it can be easy to get caught up in the latest fad diets, superfoods, and nutritional guidelines. We are bombarded with conflicting information about what we should and shouldn't eat, which can lead to confusion and anxiety about food. In the midst of all this noise, it's easy to lose touch with our own instincts when it comes to eating. We are born with an innate ability to know what our bodies need and what foods are good for us. This instinct has been honed over thousands of years of evolution, guiding our ancestors towards the foods that would nourish and sustain them. However, in today's modern world, we have become disconnected from this instinct, relying instead on external sources for guidance on what to eat. In reality, our bodies are much better equipped to tell us what we need than any expert or diet plan. Our cravings, hunger cues, and taste preferences are all ways in which our bodies communicate with us about what they need to function optimally. By learning to listen to these cues and trust our instincts, we can start to make healthier choices about what to eat. This doesn't mean that we should ignore all nutritional advice or completely abandon any guidelines about healthy eating. Rather, it means that we should use these external sources of information as a supplement to our own instincts, rather than as a replacement for them. By combining our innate knowledge with sound nutritional advice, we can create a balanced approach to eating that is both satisfying and nourishing.
  1. Packaged, and marketed, it can be difficult to trust our instincts when it comes to eating. However, by relearning how to listen to our bodies and honor our natural cravings, we can begin to reclaim our relationship with food. Ultimately, by trusting our instincts when it comes to eating, we can find a way of nourishing ourselves that is both sustainable and satisfying.
