W.E.B. Du Bois advocated for civil rights from "summary" of Illustrated Black History by George McCalman

W. E. B. Du Bois was a prominent figure in the fight for civil rights during the early 20th century. He believed that African Americans should have equal rights and opportunities as white Americans. Du Bois was a strong advocate for social and political equality, and he used his influence to push for change. One of Du Bois' most significant contributions to the civil rights movement was his belief in the power of education. He argued that education was essential for African Americans to uplift themselves and achieve equality. Du Bois himself was highly educated, earning a Ph. D. from Harvard University, and he believed that education was the key to breaking down racial barriers. In addition to advocating for education, Du Bois also fought against racial segregation and discrimination. He was a vocal critic of Jim Crow laws and other forms of institutionalized racism. Du Bois believed that segregation was harmful to both African Americans and society as a whole, and he worked tirelessly to dismantle these unjust systems. Du Bois was also a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), an organization dedicated to fighting for civil rights. Through the NAACP, Du Bois helped to organize protests, legal challenges, and other actions to combat racial discrimination.
  1. W. E. B. Du Bois was a tireless advocate for civil rights, using his intellect, influence, and passion to fight for equality. His work laid the foundation for the civil rights movement that would follow in the decades to come.
