Show empathy through active listening and validation from "summary" of I Hear You by Nidhi Upadhyay

Empathy is a powerful tool that can help us connect with others on a deeper level. One way to show empathy is through active listening and validation. When we actively listen to someone, we are giving them our full attention without interrupting or trying to give advice. We are simply there to listen and understand. Validation is another key component of showing empathy. When we validate someone's feelings, we are acknowledging their emotions and letting them know that their feelings are valid. This can help the person feel heard and understood, which can go a long way in building trust and strengthening the relationship. In order to show empathy through active listening and validation, it is important to practice certain skills. One skill is to make eye contact and nod your head while the person is speaking, to show that you are engaged in the conversation. Another skill is to paraphrase what the person has said to show that you are truly listening and understanding their perspective. It is also important to ask open-ended questions to encourage the person to share more about their feelings and experiences. By asking these questions, we show that we are interested in what the person has to say and that we value their thoughts and emotions.
  1. Empathy through active listening and validation is about creating a safe space for the person to express themselves without fear of judgment. It is about being present in the moment and truly connecting with the other person on an emotional level. By practicing these skills, we can cultivate stronger and more meaningful relationships with those around us.
