It plays a vital role in regulating basic life functions such as breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. The brainstem also controls essential reflexes such as swallowing and coughing. Additionally, it serves as a pathway for the transmission of nerve signals between the brain and the rest of the body.- The division of the brain into the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem highlights the specialized functions of each region in ensuring the proper functioning of the brain and the body as a whole.
