Neurons are the building blocks of the brain from "summary" of Human Brain Coloring Workbook by Kapil Gupta

Neurons, the specialized cells that make up the nervous system, are the fundamental units of the brain. These cells are responsible for transmitting information throughout the brain and body, allowing us to think, feel, and move. Without neurons, the brain would not be able to function properly. Neurons come in various shapes and sizes, but they all have the same basic structure. Each neuron is made up of three main parts: the cell body, dendrites, and axon. The cell body contains the nucleus, which houses the neuron's genetic material. Dendrites are the branch-like structures that receive signals from other neurons, while the axon is a long, thin fiber that carries signals away from the cell body. When a neuron receives a signal from another neuron, it generates an electrical impulse that travels down the axon. This impulse eventually reaches the end of the axon, where it triggers the release of chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters then travel across the tiny gaps between neurons, known as synapses, and bind to receptors on the dendrites of neighboring neurons. This process of signaling between neurons is essential for all of the brain's functions, from basic bodily functions like breathing and heart rate to higher-level cognitive processes like memory and decision-making. Neurons are constantly firing and communicating with one another, forming complex networks that allow us to interact with the world around us.
  1. Neurons are the building blocks of the brain because they form the basis of all neural communication. Without neurons, the brain would not be able to process information or generate thoughts and behaviors. By understanding the structure and function of neurons, we can gain insight into how the brain works and how it gives rise to the complexities of human cognition and behavior.
