Eyes reveal emotions from "summary" of How to Read Body Language by Harvey Augustus
Eyes are often said to be the window to one's soul, and can help us understand and recognize a person's emotions. Understanding the language of the eyes can help us to better connect with those around us and better understand their emotions.- Eyes can be powerful in expressing emotions! When a person is sad, his eyes could look glassy and seem to stare into the distance. On the flip side, when someone's happy, their eyes may become brighter and twinkle.
- It’s important to watch another for their steady gaze: this could indicate strong feelings of love, passion, empathy and desire. Dilated pupils can also point out these stronger emotions.
- A critical indication of emotion lies with certain changes in eye movements. Glancing away or blinking quickly while speaking are signs that somebody is not confident in what they’re saying.
- Pay attention to squinting. Squinting or narrowing of the eyes can signal skepticism or distrust – but it doesn’t always mean that there’s tension between you.
- The direction of the eyes reveals information too – if looking up implies thoughts or memories of a more nostalgic nature whilst looking down could represent dejection or disappointment.
- If someone looks at you intently and then slightly averts their gaze, this could indicate feeling shy or self conscious. It’s reassuring to remember that to some extent, we humans all have similar reactions to certain situations!
- Picking up on tiny nuances within the eyes like keeping eye contact longer than usual or widening of the eyes as one speaks suggest credibility and honesty.
