The indifference of the people towards political matters is a sad fact that cannot be denied. It is a condition that is prevalent among the poorer classes, who are so absorbed in the struggle for survival that they have little time or energy left to devote to anything else. When one's whole existence is consumed by the battle to put food on the table and keep a roof over one's head, it is no wonder that political concerns take a back seat. This lack of interest in politics is not due to a lack of intelligence or understanding on the part of the people. On the contrary, many of them are keenly aware of the injustices and inequalities that exist in society. However, they feel powerless to effect any change, and so they resign themselves to their fate.
