Mainstream feminism often neglects the struggles of marginalized women from "summary" of Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall
It’s true that mainstream feminism often overlooks the struggles of marginalized women. The issues faced by women living in poverty, women of color, LGBTQ+ women, disabled women, and other marginalized groups are frequently sidelined in mainstream feminist discourse. This is a significant problem because these women are often the most vulnerable to various forms of oppression and discrimination. When we talk about feminism, we need to ensure that we are including the voices and experiences of all women, not just those who fit into the dominant narrative. By centering the experiences of marginalized women, we can work towards a more inclusive and intersectional feminist movement. This means addressing issues such as poverty, access to healthcare, violence, and systemic racism, among others. Ignoring the struggles of marginalized women not only perpetuates inequality within the feminist movement but also hinders our ability to create real change. If we truly want to achieve gender equality, we must recognize and address the intersecting forms of oppression that impact different groups of women. This requires us to listen to and uplift the voices of marginalized women, rather than silencing them or speaking over them.- Mainstream feminism must do better in recognizing and addressing the struggles of marginalized women. It is not enough to focus solely on issues that affect privileged women; we must also confront the unique challenges faced by those who are most marginalized in our society. Only then can we truly work towards a more inclusive and equitable world for all women.
