LGBTQ+ rights are integral to feminism from "summary" of Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall

The fight for LGBTQ+ rights is not separate from the fight for feminism—it is a critical part of it. Feminism that does not include LGBTQ+ individuals is not true feminism. The issues facing LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those of color, are intertwined with the struggles of women in marginalized communities. Intersectionality is key to understanding why LGBTQ+ rights are integral to feminism. As feminists, we must recognize that discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation intersects with other forms of oppression, such as race and class. To truly advance the rights of all women, we must advocate for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals as well. For too long, mainstream feminism has focused on the needs of white, cisgender, heterosexual women, leaving LGBTQ+ individuals behind. This narrow focus not only excludes a large portion of the population but also fails to address the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals. True feminism is inclusive and intersectional, recognizing that the fight for gender equality is inseparable from the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. By advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, feminists can create a more just and equitable society for all. We must stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ individuals and fight against discrimination and injustice in all its forms. Only by working together can we truly achieve gender equality and justice for all.
