Environmental justice affects women of color at a higher rate from "summary" of Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall

When we talk about environmental justice, we have to acknowledge that it affects women of color at a higher rate. This isn't just a coincidence or a random occurrence. It's the result of systemic inequalities that have been in place for centuries. For women of color, issues like access to clean water, clean air, and safe living environments are not just abstract concepts. They are daily realities that impact their health and well-being. When we look at communities that are disproportionately affected by pollution and environmental hazards, we see that women of color are often at the forefront of these struggles. In many cases, women of color are the ones who bear the brunt of environmental injustices. They are more likely to live in areas with high levels of pollution, toxic waste, and other environmental hazards. They are more likely to experience health problems as a result of these conditions. And they are less likely to have access to resources and support to address these issues. The intersection of race, class, and gender plays a significant role in shaping the experiences of women of color when it comes to environmental justice. These women are often marginalized and overlooked in mainstream discussions about environmental issues. Their voices are silenced, their concerns are dismissed, and their needs are ignored. If we truly want to achieve environmental justice for all, we have to center the experiences of women of color in our conversations and advocacy efforts. We have to listen to their stories, amplify their voices, and work together to create a more just and equitable world for everyone. Only then can we begin to address the deep-rooted inequalities that have allowed environmental injustices to persist for far too long.
