Ford Prefect, a seemingly ordinary human being, turns out not to be so ordinary after all. He is, in fact, an alien from a distant planet, sent to Earth on a research mission. When the Earth is suddenly threatened with destruction to make way for a hyperspace bypass, Ford realizes he must save his friend Arthur from certain doom.
