Equity and access in education remained persistent issues throughout American history. These challenges were evident in various forms, such as disparities in educational opportunities based on race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and geographic location. Certain groups faced systemic barriers that limited their access to quality education, perpetuating inequality in society. Historically, marginalized communities, including African Americans, Native Americans, and immigrants, often encountered discrimination and segregation in schools. This segregation not only restricted their educational opportunities but also reinforced social hierarchies and power dynamics. As a result, these groups were deprived of the resources and support needed to succeed academically, perpetuating cycles of poverty and disadvantage.
