Conflict arises when needs are not met from "summary" of His Needs, Her Needs by Willard F. Harley Jr.
The root of most marital conflicts is a failure to meet each other's needs. When a person’s most important emotional needs are not being met by their spouse, they will become unhappy and dissatisfied. This unhappiness can lead to arguments, resentment, and ultimately, conflict. Each individual has a set of basic emotional needs that must be fulfilled in order to feel loved, valued, and secure in a relationship. When these needs are not met, they will seek to have them fulfilled elsewhere, leading to distance and discord in the marriage. For example, if a woman’s need for affection is not met by her husband, she may begin to feel unloved and unappreciated. This could lead to feelings of resentment and frustration, causing conflict in the relationship. Similarly, if a man’s need for sexual fulfillment is not met by his wife, he may feel rejected and undesirable, sparking arguments and tension between the couple. It is essential for couples to understand and prioritize each other's emotional needs in order to maintain a healthy and harmonious relationship. By actively working to meet each other's needs, couples can prevent conflicts from arising and strengthen their bond. When both partners are committed to fulfilling each other's needs, they will feel loved, cherished, and respected in the relationship. This mutual understanding and effort to meet each other's needs will create a strong foundation of trust and intimacy, reducing the likelihood of conflicts and misunderstandings.- Conflicts in relationships often stem from unmet emotional needs. By recognizing and addressing these needs, couples can prevent misunderstandings and arguments, fostering a deep connection and mutual respect in their marriage.
