When it comes to raising a child, it can be tempting to shield them from failure at all costs. We want to protect our kids from the pain of disappointment and the sting of defeat. However, by constantly swooping in to rescue them from every difficult situation, we are actually doing them a disservice. We are robbing them of the opportunity to learn valuable lessons that can only come from experiencing failure. Failure is a natural part of life, and it is through failure that we learn and grow. As parents, our job is not to prevent our children from failing, but to help them navigate failure in a healthy and constructive way. When we shield our kids from failure, we are sending them the message that they are not capable of handling challenges on their own.
