A curse from long ago threatens to consume Adeline's soul from "summary" of Haunting Adeline by H. D. Carlton
Adeline felt a dark shadow looming over her, a weight pressing down on her soul that she could not shake. It was as if some ancient force was reaching out from the depths of the past to claim her, to drag her down into the abyss. The curse, whispered about in hushed tones by the villagers, seemed to seep into her very being, twisting and warping her thoughts. Adeline's once bright eyes now held a haunted look, a flicker of fear that never seemed to fully extinguish. Her loved ones watched helplessly as she withdrew into herself, as the curse tightened its grip on her fragile spirit. They could see the fear in her eyes, the way she flinched at shadows and jumped at sudden noises. They tried to comfort her, to shield her from the darkness that threatened to swallow her whole, but they knew deep down that they were fighting a losing battle. As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, Adeline felt herself slipping further and further away from the person she once was. The curse whispered to her in the dead of night, promising her untold horrors if she did not submit. It was a siren song, both alluring and terrifying, that called to her from the depths of her own mind. And so Adeline found herself standing on the precipice, teetering on the edge of oblivion. She knew that she had to fight, to resist the curse with every ounce of strength she had left. But as the darkness closed in around her, she wondered if she would ever be able to break free from its suffocating embrace.
