Human development & aging from "summary" of Grade 10 Biology MCQ PDF (Class 10 Textbook) by Arshad Iqbal
Human development and aging is an important process of life, with each stage having its own unique set of characteristics and challenges. It is a process of continual change and growth that begins at birth and continues throughout our lives.- As people age, their bodies undergo physical, cognitive and functional changes. Physical changes include increased body fat and loss of muscle mass, thinning hair and wrinkles, and a decrease in bone density. Cognitive and functional changes can include delayed reaction time, memory issues, slowed learning and decision making, and changes to vision, hearing and mobility.
- Growth and development are both processes associated with a person's lifespan. It starts at birth and continues until death, as the individual ages. Development involves physical growth, along with cognitive, emotional and behavioural changes that occur over time.
- Age-related diseases such as arthritis, osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke and dementia become more likely as a person gets older. Proper diet, daily exercise and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are all important lifestyle choices which can help prevent many of these conditions.
- Social activities such as interacting with family and friends and participating in physical and cultural activities can improve quality of life for older individuals and promote mental health. Various government support programs also exist to assist seniors and ensure they maintain independence and live comfortably.
- People grow and develop differently, so there is no single answer as to what a ‘normal’ life course should look like. A happy, healthy and fulfilling old age relies on an individual personally investing in taking care of themselves throughout their lifetime.
