We have the power to choose our thoughts from "summary" of Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen

The idea that we can actually choose our thoughts might be a bit hard to grasp at first. We are so used to our thoughts popping into our heads seemingly out of nowhere, without any conscious effort on our part. But the truth is, we have far more control over our thought life than we might realize. We have the ability to take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ. This means that we can actively choose which thoughts to dwell on and which ones to dismiss. When we recognize that we have the power to choose our thoughts, it can be a game changer. Instead of being at the mercy of our thought patterns, we can take control and actively steer our minds in a positive direction. This doesn't mean that negative or unwanted thoughts won't still pop up. They will. But we have the power to decide whether to entertain those thoughts or let them pass. Choosing our thoughts is not about denying reality or pretending that everything is perfect. It's about choosing to focus on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. It's about intentionally directing our thoughts toward things that are praiseworthy and excellent. When we make a conscious effort to fill our minds with positive, uplifting thoughts, we can experience a profound shift in our mental and emotional well-being. This concept of choosing our thoughts is not just a nice idea or a feel-good mantra. It has the potential to transform our lives in ways we never thought possible. By taking control of our thought life, we can break free from negative thought patterns, destructive beliefs, and self-defeating behaviors. We can cultivate a mindset of resilience, gratitude, and hope. And we can experience a deeper sense of peace, joy, and fulfillment in our daily lives.
