One of the key interactions between plants and other biotic elements in arid ecosystems is mutualism. Mutualistic relationships are beneficial for both parties involved. For example, certain plants in arid regions form mutualistic relationships with mycorrhizal fungi. These fungi help the plants absorb water and nutrients from the soil, while the plants provide the fungi with sugars produced through photosynthesis.
