Embrace fear with compassion from "summary" of Fear by Thich Nhat Hanh

Fear is a strong emotion that can cause us a great deal of suffering. When we experience fear, our instinct is often to push it away or ignore it. We may try to distract ourselves or suppress our feelings in an attempt to avoid facing our fears. However, this approach only serves to amplify our fear and make it more difficult to overcome. Instead of turning away from fear, we can choose to embrace it with compassion. By acknowledging our fear and approaching it with kindness and understanding, we can begin to disarm its power over us. When we confront our fear with compassion, we create space for healing and transformation to take place. Compassion is the antidote to fear. When we respond to our fear with compassion, we are able to see it for what it truly is – a natural and universal human experience. We can recognize that our fear is not something to be ashamed of or to be judged harshly. It is simply a part of being human, and it is something that we all experience at one time or another. By embracing fear with compassion, we can learn to hold it gently and with kindness. We can acknowledge our fear without allowing it to control us or define who we are. Instead of resisting our fear, we can choose to be present with it and to treat it with the same care and understanding that we would offer to a dear friend. When we approach fear with compassion, we are able to see it as an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. We can learn valuable lessons from our fear and use it as a stepping stone towards greater wisdom and resilience. By accepting our fear with compassion, we can begin to cultivate a sense of inner peace and strength that will sustain us through life's inevitable challenges.
