Of course, the idea that asteroids might serve as interstellar lifeboats is still speculative. But recent discoveries have only added to the intrigue. In 2019, for example, scientists detected the first known interstellar visitor to our solar system—a mysterious object dubbed 'Oumuamua. While 'Oumuamua is unlikely to harbor life, its presence has sparked a renewed interest in the potential for alien organisms to travel between star systems. In the end, the notion that asteroids could carry alien organisms is a tantalizing possibility that challenges our understanding of the cosmos.
