Leaders must be willing to hold themselves and others accountable for execution from "summary" of Execution by Larry Bossidy,Ram Charan,Charles Burck

In order for a leader to drive successful execution within an organization, it is imperative that they are willing to hold both themselves and others accountable for their actions. This means taking ownership of their own responsibilities and ensuring that those under their leadership are also meeting their expectations. Accountability is not about assigning blame, but rather about ensuring that all parties are doing their part to achieve the desired outcomes. One of the key responsibilities of a leader is to set clear expectations and goals for their team. By clearly defining what success looks like and what needs to be accomplished, leaders can provide a roadmap for their team to follow. However, setting expectations is not enough - leaders must also follow through to ensure that these expectations are being met. This requires regular check-ins and feedback to monitor progress and address any issues that may arise. In addition to holding others accountable, leaders must also hold themselves to high standards. This means leading by example and demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to the goals of the organization. By modeling the behavior they expect from their team, leaders can inspire others to do the same. When accountability is lacking within an organization, it can lead to a lack of trust and a breakdown in communication. By holding themselves and others accountable, leaders can foster a culture of trust and transparency where everyone is committed to working towards a common goal. This creates a sense of unity and purpose within the organization, driving greater levels of execution and success.
