Regularly evaluating our commitments and eliminating those that no longer serve us is an essential practice from "summary" of Essentialism by Greg McKeown

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with opportunities and obligations, it is easy to become overwhelmed and stretched too thin. We often find ourselves saying "yes" to things out of a sense of obligation or fear of missing out, without considering whether these commitments actually align with our values, goals, and priorities. Regularly evaluating our commitments and eliminating those that no longer serve us is an essential practice. By doing so, we are able to focus our time, energy, and resources on the things that truly matter to us. This requires us to be ruthless in our decision-making, letting go of activities and relationships that do not contribute to our overall well-being and success. Eliminating non-essential commitments allows us to create space for the activities and relationships that bring us joy and fulfillment. It enables us to devote our full attention and energy to the things that truly matter, rather than spreading ourselves too thin across too many obligations. This practice of discernment and elimination is not easy, as it requires us to confront our fears of disappointing others or missing out on opportunities. However, by being intentional about our commitments and prioritizing what is truly important to us, we are able to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life. We must be willing to let go of the fear of missing out in order to embrace the joy of missing out on things that do not align with our values and goals. By regularly evaluating our commitments and eliminating those that no longer serve us, we are able to create space for what truly matters in our lives.
