Letting go of the fear of missing out allows us to fully commit to what truly matters from "summary" of Essentialism by Greg McKeown

To fully commit to what truly matters in our lives, we must first let go of the fear of missing out. This fear, also known as FOMO, can be a significant barrier to living a more essential life. When we constantly worry about missing out on opportunities, events, or experiences, we spread ourselves too thin and fail to focus on what is truly important to us. Essentialism teaches us to prioritize our time and energy on the things that align with our values and goals. By letting go of FOMO, we can free ourselves from distractions and make intentional choices about where we invest our resources. This shift in mindset allows us to fully commit to the activities, relationships, and projects that bring us the most fulfillment and satisfaction. When we release the fear of missing out, we create space in our lives for what truly matters to us. This might mean saying no to invitations or commitments that do not align with our priorities, or cutting out activities that drain our energy without providing significant value. By making these tough choices, we can create a more meaningful and purposeful existence. Committing to what truly matters requires a willingness to let go of the need to please everyone and be everywhere at once. It means setting boundaries and being selective about how we spend our time and energy. By embracing essentialism and focusing on what is most important to us, we can live a more intentional and fulfilling life.
