As the cities of the Indus Valley civilization began to decline around 1900 BCE, a new culture started to take shape in the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. This culture was characterized by a shift from urban centers to rural settlements, a change in burial practices, and the emergence of new religious and social practices.
